Forbes boasts a charming location in the central western part of the state, and Spring is when it really comes to life.
One of the highlights of visiting Forbes during Spring is the Canola Trail. This trail is famous for its stunning fields of bright yellow canola flowers that blanket the countryside across the Central West. The canola crops bloom from late August through to October, and the vibrant yellow fields create a striking contrast against the blue skies and green pastures.
The Canola Trail is a designated route through the Central West where you can experience these beautiful blooms firsthand. It’s a great time for photography, scenic drives, and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. The trail also offers a chance to visit local farm regions and learn about the agricultural practices involved in growing canola.
In addition to the Canola Trail, spring in Forbes sees perfect weather for outdoor activities. The town itself hosts various local events and markets, and the surrounding areas offer opportunities for bushwalking, bird watching, and exploring local attractions.
So what are you waiting for…?

At its core, the Forbes Show is a celebration of agriculture. It offers a platform for local farmers and producers to exhibit their livestock, crops, and innovations. From impressive cattle and sheep displays to agricultural machinery demonstrations, the show provides a comprehensive look at the industry’s latest advancements and time-honored traditions.
But the Forbes Show is more than just an agricultural fair. It’s a vibrant community event filled with a variety of attractions. Spring on the Lachlan
Nestled in the heart of Forbes, New South Wales, Sculpture down the Lachlan offers a unique and enriching experience for art enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. This picturesque trail winds along the serene Lachlan River, but what sets it apart is the captivating display of sculptures that punctuate the landscape.
As you explore our blooming landscape, you’ll encounter a diverse collection of sculptures, each reflecting a blend of creativity and the natural beauty of the region. The artworks range from abstract forms to lifelike representations, all thoughtfully positioned to harmonize with the surrounding environment. These sculptures not only enhance the scenic beauty of the trail but also invite visitors to engage in a dialogue with art in a natural setting.
The latest, and final addition to the trail is “Brumbies Run”, which consists of four life-sized bronze sculptures, crafted by renowned artist, Brett ‘Mon’ Garling.
This iconic installation pays homage to the Brumbies of the Australian Landscape and completes the plans for the Forbes Arts Society’s Sculpture Down the Lachlan trail.
For those familiar with the trail or the area, they’ve been placed near Sonata – the young violinist on the bull – about the halfway point between Forbes and Condobolin.
Sculptures Down the Lachlan are part of Forbes’ broader commitment to integrating art with the natural landscape, making it a perfect destination for those looking to experience culture in a relaxed, outdoor setting. Whether you’re an art aficionado or simply looking for a scenic drive, Sculpture Down the Lachlan promises a memorable journey through creativity and nature.
